Maryland legislature passes ignition interlock bill
The Maryland legislature approved a bill last week requiring ignition interlocks for underage drunken drivers, those refusing roadside breath tests, drivers failing breath tests with a BAC of .15 or greater and also for drivers convicted of a second drunken driving offense. The proposal is currently awaiting approval from the governor. Last year about 8,000 drivers in Maryland had ignition interlocks on their vehicles and estimates expect the new law will add an additional 4,500 drivers to the program annually.
