Bills introduced in Wisconsin legislature to increase drunken driving penalties

Two senators introduced legislation that would increase penalties for high-BAC and repeat drunken driving offenders. One proposal would make first-time drunken driving a crime if the offender’s BAC was .15 or higher and the other would make a third and fourth time OWI offense a felony. The state considered similar measures a few years ago but determined prison costs were too high to house the additional prisoners. However, a recovering economy may allow for these bills to pass this time around.
